Is it legal to sell a YouTube channel or TikTok account?
In most countries, selling a YouTube channel or a TikTok account is a private sale like any other, and the money you make is taxable. The platforms’ own rules are the bigger question: Google lets a channel on a Brand Account change owners through its permission settings, while TikTok’s terms say an account must not be transferred, or its password shared, without TikTok’s permission, and TikTok can suspend accounts. Sell through escrow, disclose everything, and know that the platform can still act on an account after the sale.

1. What the law covers
Most countries have no law against selling a social media channel or account. It’s treated as selling an asset or a business, so ordinary rules apply: describe it truthfully, deliver what you sold, and pay tax on what you earn.
In India, a marketplace that pays sellers deducts tax at source (TDS) on sales above the yearly limit, and sellers report the income in their own tax return. Other countries tax the gain or income in their own way, so check what applies where you live.
2. What YouTube’s rules allow
A YouTube channel on a Brand Account can have several owners and managers, and Google lets an owner become the primary owner after holding the Owner role for 7 days. That’s the transfer SwapCreators’ escrow agent uses, so nobody shares a Google password.

3. What TikTok’s rules say

- Use escrow: the buyer’s money is held until the handover is complete
- Prove ownership with a public code instead of screenshots alone
- Disclose strikes, restrictions, and monetization status honestly
